Generation Z actual Dating Trends

Generation what?

Generation Z refers to people born between 1997 and 2012. And we all know that as generations go by, values and ideas change as well. When it comes to dating, Generation Z in particular struggles with a number of preconceptions. Their values are supposedly defined by superficiality, and character increasingly comes second. But is that really true, or are we simply opening the drawer and pigeonholing an entire generation?

Who better to address the issue than a dating app much appreciated by the young age group in particular, which has made swiping socially acceptable. Tinder publishes the year's dating trends every year and this is based on the behavior of its users. This year was no exception, and the annual review provides insight into what dating behavior Generation Z really shows.

Tinder Insights reveal Generation Z's dating habits

Is it true that finding the right partner seems to have become a minor issue and that dating is more about having a good time? Or have young singles been more focused on romantic points this year? The data from the evaluation not only provides information about which aspects take priority in the search for a partner. Current dating app trends can also be read thanks to the results and reveal more about what this generation is focusing on. These are evaluations of numerous dating profiles and a survey in which many members participate every year.

  1. And these are the dating trends of Generation Z on Tinder:
  2. Situationship is the new relationship trend
  3. Be positive
  4. Active dating is popular
  5. Less booze, more dating
  6. Humor is timeless
  7. Social and political issues matter
  8. Back to 90s
  9. Move away from toxic singles
  10. Searching outside of one's environment
  11. Looking at the stars

We'll now explain what all these trends mean and how they have manifested themselves.

1. Situationship is the new form of relationship

What exactly is Situationship? To be precise, it is a relationship that is not declared as such. It is a casual and informal way of getting to know each other, where nothing is called by its name. Basically, every relationship starts with Situationship, until the question "What are we actually" comes up and demands an answer. So, Generation Z prefers to take it easy and doesn't want to consider themselves taken based on a few dates.

2. Be positive

In 2022, singles were more interested in positive vibes. No more negative people, because after a hard two years, young singles long for the beautiful sides of life again. And that can only be achieved with a partner who brings a positive aura and charisma. Putting the negativity aside and focusing on the beautiful things was the kind of flex that Generation Z cares the most about.

3. Active dating is popular

Meeting at a restaurant on a first date and having a candlelight dinner? Not with Generation Z, because they're more into dates that are more active. After all, getting to know each other well can also happen while camping or visiting a street food festival. Young singles like to do something and that right from the first date.

4. Less booze, more dating

Is Generation Z really in a permanent party mood? Judging by the results of the survey, this is indeed a misconception. Just under 25 percent of members stated in the course of the survey that they drank less on dates than in the previous year. Profile details also speak for themselves here, with 72 percent of profiles showing only occasional or no consumption of alcohol. Generation Z is therefore distancing itself from wanting to get its dating partner drunk and is focusing on sober dating.

5. Humor is timeless

Humor has always been an important part of dating - and that hasn't changed with Generation Z in 2022. It is considered one of the most important qualities for a relationship to work. Surprisingly, other inner values such as open-mindedness and respect also ranked far above appearance. Apparently, Generation Z on Tinder is not as superficial as many may think.

6. Social and political issues matter

Within the last few years, a lot has happened in the world and obviously young singles have not been spared by these events. Particularly the war that began in Ukraine has opened the eyes of many. On Tinder profiles, the Ukrainian flag increasingly appeared as a sign of succor. And the survey also found that more than 70 percent of members were looking for a partner interested in political and social issues.

7. Back to 90s

Kids of the early 90s have always known that those years are timeless. A fact also shared by generation Z. A look at the hashtag trends that were most prevalent on profiles in 2022 clearly proves this. In this category, sneakers come first, and child of the '90s comes third. Back to the Roots is thus one of the new dating trends of the young singles generation.

8. Away from toxic singles

While you might think that toxic posts are currently going viral and are universally popular, Tinder insights suggest otherwise. Most singles on the platform not only distance themselves from toxic singles - more than half said they could recognize them right away and thus avoid them.

9. Searching outside of one's environment

After traveling and other activities were prohibited in 2020 and 2021, they have become an absolute trend in 2022. Off on vacation and checking the Tinder profiles at the destination beforehand. Members used their so-called passport several times a month in 2022. This shows that Generation Z has a desire for adventure and vacation flirts and would prefer to arrange them in advance.

10. Looking at the stars

Whether you believe in astrology or not, many singles enter their zodiac sign on Tinder and seem to rely on the stars when it comes to finding their next love. The insights revealed that opposites do not necessarily attract. Singles with the same star sign had the most matches.

Conclusion

Generation Z has proven in the Tinder annual review for the period from January 2022 to October 2022 that it is not superficial. On the contrary, many singles stated that they pay more attention to inner values. And the 90s are also currently experiencing a new upswing and are enjoying great popularity. Since blind dates were also a thing of the 90s, Tinder has even opened a new section where singles get to know each other first and then get to see each other's profiles.
